March is Women’s History Month and meridian-street wants to recognize well-known, and lesser-known, women who have had a lasting impact on our world. Here’s our top ten.
Eve decides to add apple to spice up Adam’s fruit salad – So much for life in paradise.
Helena of Sparta winks at Paris of Troy – A thousand ships are launched and we all end up having to read The Odyssey.
Lot’s wife decides to take a quick peek back at the Sodom fireworks – Now, with excess salt, the Israelis add it to all foods and like it better. Millenniums later everyone retains water and gets high blood pressure.
Bathsheba takes a bath – King David steals Bathsheba and Solomon gets born, eventually writing a song and giving the Bible a “hot part.”
Delilah decides to become a hairdresser and practices on Sampson – Her styling brings the temple down and Sampson’s story becomes the outline for every superhero movie ever made.
Ennelin of Strasbourg, Johannes Gutenberg’s fiance, complains about hand writing their wedding invitations- “Honey, are you going to help or not?” Thus the printing press. Then, after she made him successful, Johanne dumps her (typical).
Margaret Wilcox invents the car heater – Wilcox is also credited with inventing the first car argument, as couples squabble over whether the car is too cold or too hot.
Sarah Goode invents the fold-out bed – With the extra bed, mothers-in-law visit more and marital bliss is enhanced.
Margaret Keane paints “big-eye children” – With abnormally large eyes, Margaret Keane’s big-eye paintings become popular and influence dolls like the creepy Little Miss No Name, the Power Puff girls, and ultimately Disney’s Frozen that gave us the toxic earworm Let It Go. Parents may never forgive Margaret.
Ruth Wakefield creates chocolate chip cookies – When she runs out of baking chocolate while making cookies at her Toll House Inn, Ruth mixes in Nestle chocolate chunks and voila! THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE!
Keep up the amazing work, ladies.
