Testifying before the Supreme Court in support of Grants Pass Oregon’s camping ban, Mr. Scrooge argued that parks are paid for with burdensome taxes and therefore the parks should be kept free for use.

“Should I choose to make myself merry with an evening peramble in the park, such public places should be free of human rubbish. If not, good sirs and madams, then kindly return my confiscated pounds from the public purse and do so promptly!”

Liberal Justice Sonia Justice Sotomayor challenged Scrooge, asking, “Where would the homeless go if evicted from parks?”

“Are there no union workhouses?” Scrooge replied. “Are there no prisons?”

“Many would rather die than go there,” Justice Sotomayor said, then whispered, “What’s a union workhouse?”

“Then they should do so and decrease the surplus population,” Scrooge said.

At that point legal representatives from Grants Pass pulled Scrooge away from the microphone.

After the hearing, President Biden commented that he supports “union workhouses” because he supports anything that is union.
