Supporters of a basic income for all Oregonians have collected 135,000 signatures to put an initiative on the ballot to give all Oregonians $750 a year regardless of age.

While middle class voters are mixed in their feelings about the initiative, the wealth redistribution plan is popular with junkies.

When asked what he would do with his $750 a year, a street citizen calling himself “Mousetrap,” was quick to answer. “Freddy, Molly, maybe some crack.”

Street citizen “Sunshine,” gave a more thoughtful response. “Freddy, molly, crack. Maybe some Narcan so I can do more.”

Critics complain that at $750 the amount is too low to make a difference. Supporters are quick to point out that this is just the beginning.

“Ultimately, we plan to ramp up the basic income to $75,000,”Spokesperson Cyndi Winslow-Bates said. “That way no one has to work.”

When it was pointed out that the increase in business taxes could force companies to close and lay off their employees, Winslow-Bates replied, “Then they’ll have the state money to live on.”

Further discussion revealed that Winslow-Bates also believes that the electricity powering her Tesla is from windmills or solar panels, because the power companies keep green electricity separate from non-green electricity.
