Soon, one of the last green spaces near the Washington Mall will be replaced with a monument to journalists. According to the design committee, the new memorial will be made of glass blocks.

“We got the idea in a bar one night when we were drinking scotch on the rocks,” Karen Witcher said. “Make it out of ice cubes! That’s it.”

Witcher was enthusiastic about the project.

“Without hero journalists how would we know about President Trump’s collusion with the Russians, and that Trump cavorted with Russian prostitutes? I mean, without the work of reporters, people might think that laptop is really Hunter’s!”

Witcher described the monument as, “beginning with 300 unique glass blocks strewn around and representing different points of view. Then, on all sides, are pathways that all lead to the center plaza which represents the point where journalists have finally eliminated all those differences so now there is just one perspective shared by all media.”

When asked whether journalists shouldn’t honor different views, not eliminate them, Witcher waived away the concern.

“You can’t have a country if everyone is free to think whatever they want.”

As to the rumor that the structure will lean to the left and glow with yellow light, Witcher clarified.

“The structure will be straight and true, not slanted, just like real journalism. It will glow but with different hues, since we thought white light would represent white structural racism. Oh, and the light will come from LED bulbs and be powered by green energy.”

When it was pointed out that the structure did not include solar panels or a windmill, Witcher explained.

“We’ve told the electric company to only send power from green sources through the cables.”

One observer noted that the monument would replace grass and plants that pull carbon from the air and replace it with stone and glass that retain and magnify heat.

“That’s your truth, not ours,” Witcher replied. “And not helpful, so we’ll never report it.”
