Too cautious to use the same password for everything, John is proud that he keeps his passwords on 3X5 cards and in alphabetical order.

“I used to have passwords on slips of paper, stickies, envelopes, whatever I had handy when I had to create a new password. Finally, I sat down and organized them all.”

John then flipped through the card file giving examples.

“Here’s my AOL password. Is that still a thing? Then here’s my Blackberry password. Behind this tab is LinkedIn, which is annoying. Here is Myspace. Ooh, I should probably update my profile. Here are all my Netflix emails and passwords. To keep getting Netflix deals I have to open new gmail accounts over and over. Here in the back is Vine. What was that for?”

When this reporter noted that there were random papers stuffed in at the front, John was defensive.

“Those are the newest passwords and it’s just easier to put them at the front for now. Also, I’m not sure if I should put my new Facebook password under F or under S for social media.”

When it was pointed out that passwords can be stored in his computer in a password vault, John was skeptical.

“What if I forget the password to the password vault? Where do I store that password? In my box, that’s where. So I cut out the middleman”

At the end of the interview John admitted that not all of his passwords were in his box.

“I’ve got some in the shoebox where I keep my tax records and a few on stickies next to my computer.”

Then this reporter asked if John also had passwords in his wallet?

“Maybe,” John said.
