As DOGE uncovers billions in government waste, Elon Musk proposed sending some of the savings back to taxpayers. President Trump immediately declared the idea “perfect and beautiful, the most beautiful idea ever.”

After the announcement, there was a delay in implementation since all the federal employees who would process the applications had been fired.

Eventually, workers at the Social Security Administration were given the task. When the number of applications for rebate exceeded the population of the US (340 million), none of the holdover SS employees seemed to notice. When it hit 400 million, SS employee Reilly Klever was given an award for approving the 400 millionth application.

When the applicant numbers neared double the population of the country, DOGE returned with questions. Mr. Klever spoke for the employees.

“There are always rounding errors,” Klever explained.

When asked how he would assess the quality of his office’s work, Klever said:

“Good enough for government work.”

At publication time there were rumors of more personnel reductions in the Social Security Administration.
