After the success, sort of, of Oregon’s pioneering Motor Voter law, Oregon is adopting other ways to increase voter registration.
“Automatically registering people when they get their drivers’ license worked great,” DMV spokesperson Chevy Rollette said. “Sure, a few hundred, or thousand, ineligible people got registered, but who’s counting. Heh, heh, heh!”
Using the same creative thinking that led to the legalization of drugs, and vote by mail, Oregon has adopted several new ways to register to vote. Here is a partial list.
Boxes of blue hair dye now have voter QR codes. Scan the code and you are registered.
Anyone ordering a keffiyeh on Amazon is automatically registered to vote.
Protesters arrested for demonstrating at an ICE action are automatically registered to vote as they are booked.
Anyone getting a cartilage piercing is automatically registered to vote.
Tattoo parlors are now voter registration hubs.
Any member of a church that changed its name from its denomination to a “community” church is automatically registered to vote.
Anyone receiving a free tent from a homeless outreach center is automatically registered to vote.
If you order a vegetarian pizza from Domino’s you are automatically registered to vote.
Subscribing to Dylan Mulvaney’s YouTube channel automatically registers you to vote.
If you join more than two wine clubs, you are automatically registered to vote.
With these steps, Oregon’s politicians hope to keep Oregon the leader in weird ideas.
