Churches have always struggled to get men into small group Bible studies, but with little success.* However, modern churches are succeeding with innovative topics that speak to what men are about. Here are some of the most popular groups.

Golf and God – Meets at the golf course so you won’t miss your tee time.

Who’s The Boss? – The focus is on 45 Bible passages that declare the man is the head of the house. By the end of the study husbands almost believe it.

Beer and the Bible – Preferably not in that order.

Minor Prophets Free Zone – Can you name any except Jonah? We didn’t think so. So we skip them.

Shorties – “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). “Rejoice always” (1 Thessalonians 5:16). “Love one another” (John 13:34). You can memorize 10 Bible verses in the time it takes others to learn one.

Bible Buddies – Not exactly Band of Brothers, but that kind of idea.

Pollyanna’s Glad Game – We count the glad passages in the Bible like Reverend Ford in Pollyanna. Are there 800 like Pollyanna’s father claims, or 826 as Reverend Ford counted? This topic is particularly popular with obsessive-compulsives and men who like hair-splitting and arguing, of which there are many.

Just The Hot Parts – Bathsheba? Should have been named Babesheba. Song of Solomon? Oh yeah!

The Three Faces of Eve – Using clips from the movie about a woman with multiple personalities, men will use Biblical wisdom to try and better understand their wives rapidly changing moods, but fail. But fail together, thus forming a bond.

The Leaky Roof – Despite the name, this Bible study is not about home repair, but focusses on passages like Proverbs 27:15 which compares wives to a “dripping roof.” Also included are Proverbs 21:9, Proverbs 19:13, Proverbs 21:19…**

With these surefire focussed groups, men will flock to your Bible Studies.

*Try not holding the meetings in your cousin’s restaurant at 6 am on Saturdays (You know who you are).

**Recommendation: If you actually have a leaking roof, fix it before joining this group.
